Pilotsview.de | The Ilyushin Il-76 is a four-engine aircraft designed by the Ilyushin Design Bureau of the Soviet Union. It is designed to deliver heavy machinery to remote, poorly served areas. Military versions of the Il-76 are widespread in Europe, Asia and Africa. In 2015 an Ilyushin IL-76TD-90VD from Volga-Dnepr landed in Antarctica for the first time. The flight to a Russian research station also served to approve the new four-jet engine for operation at extremely low temperatures. The new generation of the Il-76 is powered by four PS-90A-76s. The IL-76TD-90VD, noise-approved according to ICAO-Chapter III, can carry up to 50 tons of payload with a maximum take-off mass of 195 tons. With a payload of 40 tons, it has a range of 5650 kilometers. It gets by with 1,300 meters of take-off distance and 930 meters of landing distance.
