Die McDonnell Douglas MD-11 (auch Boeing MD-11) ist ein dreistrahliges Großraum-Langstreckenflugzeug. Seinem Vorgängermodell McDonnell Douglas DC-10 äußerlich ähnlich, verfügt die MD-11 jedoch über einen längeren Rumpf, eine verkleinerte Flosse des Höhenleitwerks, sparsamere Triebwerke und größere Tragflächen mit Winglets zur Reduzierung des Treibstoffverbrauchs. Das 200. und letzte Flugzeug wurde am 22. Februar 2001 an Lufthansa Cargo ausgeliefert. Den letzten regulären Passagier-Linienflug führte KLM am 26. Oktober 2014 durch und verabschiedete die letzte Passagier-MD-11 mit drei Sonderflügen am 11. November 2014 in einer Sonderbemalung KLM – Douglas Aviation History, die darauf hinwies, dass KLM neben der MD-11 alle Douglas-Typen von der DC-2 bis zur DC-10 geflogen hat.
