The Airbus A380 is a four-engine wide-body long-haul aircraft from the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus with two continuous passenger decks. The development of the Airbus A380 goes back to the 1980s, when the first feasibility studies were carried out on a large aircraft for both passengers and cargo air traffic. In the second half of the 1990s, a market situation arose which, from Airbus' point of view, allowed the plans to be implemented. On October 15, 2007 the first machine (MSN 003) was handed over to Singapore Airlines. It entered service on October 25, 2007 on the Singapore – Sydney route.
